Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital (Tz)

Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital [DRRH] is a busy 420 bedded government facility in the administrative capital of the country at the heart of Tanzania. It is one of the oldest hospitals in the country, having been built following the 1st World War as a health camp for casualties. Its historical footprint is complimented with impressive more recent developments to the infrastructure including an excellent emergency department, a state of the art ITU, and a renovated theatre block.

It was one of the original centres recruited during phase 1 of the TNMHP back in March 2020. Unfortunately a service failed to be established at that time due to problems sourcing and importing a suitable autoclave. Efforts to solve the issues were then hampered by the COVID pandemic. However, a well received 2nd attempt in June 2023 now sees Dr Mbele and his team able to offer an affordable mesh hernia surgery service. As an important surgical training centre, this is major step forward for future expansion of the TNMHP. An excellent outcome and a testimony to the perseverance of all involved.
