Sengerema Mission Hospital (TZ)

Sengerema Mission Hospital was founded in 1959 and is located 70km from Mwanza in the Lake Zone of Tanzania. This 320 bedded hospital has undergone significant improvements in recent years. They have installed extensive solar panels and a battery bank that covers almost all the hospital’s electricity requirements. Equally impressive is a recently completed theatre block that is as good as anything you might find in many a high-income country. It really does demonstrate what can be achieved with vision, determination and the necessary financial support of generous sponsors.

Hosted by the dynamic Erik and Jiska Staal, we are truly privileged to have been welcomed here. It is a perfect location for an affordable mesh hernia programme and was inducted to the programme in February 2026 at the time of our exciting collaborative visit with VRiMS.
