GASOC* Conference 2023

September 2023

We were once again delighted to support this excellent initiative – anaesthetic, surgical and O&G trainees collaborating incredibly effectively to improve global health. It was a hybrid event; with the physical proceedings taking place in Oxford this year and with a truly global audience joining virtually. It was an excellent programme with many inspirational talks and presentations.

The Sierra Leone project, led by Abbot (S/L) had an abstract accepted for poster presentation, with an abstract reporting of the wider AMHSI project led by Louise (SWIFTSS Fellow) also accepted for poster presentation. Both received significant interest and excellent feedback. Lesley (Clinical Faculty) and Mark were invited to run a workshop  and they settled on the title; ‘Implementing sustainable and valuable global health projects; the highs, lows, and challenges’. This was very popular with very positive feedback.

It is remarkable that Lesley and Mark met at this conference just one year ago, and in that time so much has been achieved – something GASOC is rightly incredibly proud of (as we are too!). Further networking was enjoyed (epitomising SWIFTSS approach), with a number of possible future collaborations emerging. Exciting stuff!
