This really does feel like an important milestone for the project. It rather epitomises what we are trying to do. Having met the Selian team during our last ‘pre-COVID’ visit to the Arusha Hub (March 2020), we were optimistic that organic spread would occur. However, the now familiar barriers (access to mesh, access to suitable temperature sensitive autoclave facilities) proved hard to overcome.
We were delighted to re-engage with Dr Elbariki and the team when we finally managed to get back over to Tanzania in November 2022 and quickly established that the appetite for engagement was still high. We approached the challenges with a renewed understanding and continued to believe we could establish the project there. After much persistence, innovative thinking and patience, this hard work has paid off. The first TNMHP mesh was successfully prepared and used in Selian on 7th February 2023.
