After several years of development, testing and revisions, we are delighted to share our latest offering to Global Surgical training – a make it yourself groin simulation model for hernia repair. With the cost of most simulation models prohibitive in the LMIC context, we have been working hard to create something that is just as good for learning the steps of such surgery, but much cheaper and also easy to produce, with materials that should be universally available.
You can find everything you need to recreate this model on our dedicated page here. It should cost no more than $2 for the materials, and takes about 1hr of hands on time the first time you put it together (glue drying time extends this, so best to plan to make it over several days). If you buy the materials in bulk (enough to make 10 say) it can cost as little as $1. As you become more proficient, or make the model in batches, it takes a lot less time.
Particular thanks to Lesley for her determination and innovative approach to overcoming this problem.
