Nyamagana Designated District Hospital, Mwanza (Tz)

Nyamagana Designated District Hospital has 185 beds and lies on the outskirts of Mwanza, on the Road to Sengerema. It is a busy hospital; serving a catchment area of 500,000 people and seeing 3,000 outpatients per month. It has enjoyed recent government investment in infrastructure and is undergoing some impressive ongoing development. Induction into the AMHSI was achieved during a collaborative peri-conference camp with the TSA in June 2026. Whilst at this time they didn’t have any specialist surgeons, Dr Godfrey and Dr Mollel welcomed us warmly and organised things very well. Hernia surgery had historically been performed here only intermittently and the induction was the first time mesh had been used. Going forwards, Dr Vihar Kotetcha from BMC will continue to support and mentor them.
